By themselves, black and white can make a room feel stark. But by adding silver and crystal elements, this room moves to an inviting, luxurious space.
The black and white focus is softened by the use of large floral patterns. The area rug, pillows and lampshade all carry this type of pattern, in three variations. The pure black loveseat and almost white variegated tile floor support the look and add just enough simple contrast to let the patterns stand out. Without these two simpler elements, the room would be just too much.
Silver is used richly but judiciously, with two graceful small tables toward the back gilded in silver leaf and a couple of detailed antique silver candlesticks on the buffet. The buffet itself is a study in black and white with an embossed pattern on the doors and the black counter and door pulls. This piece of furniture echoes the 1920’s and brings a retro almost art deco feel to the room.
The pillar of crystals behind the loveseat allows the light to splinter into variations that add sparkle and glamour. Glass etched in a large floral pattern behind the buffet pulls the light and reflects it back, adding even more interest and personality.
If you stop a minute, you can see the stars of Hollywood’s heyday drinking cocktails in this room. It’s ready for an exciting and inviting party. How about a sprinkle of silver or crystal, or white and black patterns, to add sparkle to a room in your home?
