You have come to the step in the design process where you need to decide on a color scheme. Where do you begin? With so many color combinations out there, you are overwhelmed and in need of some guidance. Fear not, we are here to help you! We have created a quick and easy guide to help you through the selection process. We hope that these seven tips assist you in deciding on the perfect color scheme!
How to Choose Your Color Scheme:
Tip No. One: Ask a Color Wheel.
There may be a lot of different colors that you would have never considered of without the visual aid of a color wheel. But before you begin choosing colors, take some time to explore the different color options. You may be surprised by what sparks your interest.
Tip No. Two: The Rule of Three (Colors).
The rule of three is a fantastic principle for selecting your room’s color scheme. The rule of three has you choose three colors. One of colors will be neutral, the second will be a bold color, and the third will be an accent color. Divided the colors into 60%, 30%, and 10%. Ideally, you will want to choose the lightest hue for 60% of the room, the next lightest color for the 30%, and the most vibrant color for the last 10%.
Tip No. Three: The Rule of Two (Neutrals).
Now, Neutrals are a little different than mixing colors. You only divide the room into twos. The distribution is 70% and 30%. A neutral color scheme can get a little dull at times; therefore, you will want to add interest with unique details. Combining this with an intriguing backsplash, patterned towels, and gorgeous countertops can help add to the overall design.
Tip No. Four: Third Time is a Charm.
A principle that you will want to keep in mind is that you only want to use one color three times throughout the room. This limit will help make the room feel balanced. For example, you have the color gray in your design. You then decide three areas where you think gray would look good. Maybe you choose your towels, shower curtain, and a decor piece. Voila, you have your three gray pieces.
Tip No. Five: Create a Contrast.
If you are down for a challenge, you can add contrast and depth by using two complementary colors. Just pull out your color wheel and look at the colors directly across from one another.
Blue and orange are an example of complementary colors.
Tip No. Six: Embrace a Color’s Richness.
Now is the time to be bold with your design. That means embracing new colors and challenges. You can take on dark colors and incorporate them into your design without hesitation. Just be sure to follow the rule of three when planning your design!
Tip No. Seven: Balance Patterns with Simplicity.
If you chose a patterned fabric in your room, balance it out with a simple color scheme.
Just try to keep things simple then you can add on as you go.
