Refresh Your Home For Summer

June 29, 2020 By creatingyourspace Leave a Comment

Whether you are looking to completely redecorate some rooms in your home or just spruce up what you have with something fresh for the summer season, there are plenty of easy ways to brighten up your home now that summer is here. Check out these tips below to refresh the look of your home this summer.

Refresh a small powder room by painting an accent wall a bright summery color. Try a matte teal or pale yellow to offset the other white or cream-colored walls. Accessorize the bathroom with a matching soap dispenser and new towels. If you have any wall-worthy paintings from your kids, consider framing their artwork and hanging it on the accent wall.

Add a pop of color to your sunroom, back patio or foyer by adding accent pillows to the furniture in each respective area. Grab some coral, yellow or green throw pillows for the sunroom and foyer. Get weatherproof pillows for your outside furniture.

If you are able to go to the farmer’s market, pick up fresh flowers for your home. Add a large vase of flowers to your entryway, your kitchen island and your dinner table. Fresh flowers really bring in color and fresh scent to make your home feel clean and welcoming.

If your home’s bedrooms have dark curtains or heavy drapes, try refreshing their look with something lighter. Add light-colored curtains to drape over your windows or try making a window treatment with light, beach home-like fabrics, such as linen.

Feeling adventurous? Sand and repaint a piece of furniture! It could be an old desk or dresser or a chair or table. Sand off the old finish from the piece of furniture and clean well. Then, paint a bright color or a chic, clean eggshell white. Allow to dry and it will surely brighten up the room it was in before.

Hopefully, some of these tips will help give you a fresh look for summer or just give you something new and cheery to look at if you’re stuck at home. Have fun! We’d love to see your projects!

Create Your Own Reading Nook

May 27, 2020 By creatingyourspace Leave a Comment

After a long and tiring day at work, wouldn’t it be nice to find a spot in your home where you can just curl up, relax and read a good book? If you’re thinking, “Yes!” then it’s high time you created a comfy reading nook all your own.

Creating a reading nook isn’t difficult. All you need is a small unused space in your home, a comfy chair, an ottoman, a bookcase and a small table accented with a plush area rug and a reading lamp and you are good to go. Oh, and don’t forget the latest book you can’t put down!

First, find a perfect spot in your home where you think you can relax. It can be in a corner of your bedroom, beside a window where you have a relaxing view, or wherever you would be comfortable. It doesn’t matter which area you choose so much as it does making sure it is away from any noise. This will make for a very relaxing experience and keep you deeply engulfed in your reading.

Once you’ve selected the spot, it’s time to accessorize your nook. First, define the space by putting a plush area rug underfoot. Selecting the right area rug can set the mood for your nook so make sure that you select a pattern and texture that is relaxing and comfy.

Then place a comfy chair or chaise atop the rug. Make sure your seating is comfortable, so you can enjoy spending hours there with the company of your good book.

Good lighting should also be a part of your list when creating your reading nook. You don’t want to have a headache from reading due to poor lighting. Choose one that casts a sufficient glow for reading comfortably without being too dim or too bright.

And lastly, place a table or bookcase where you can put and organize your books and your cup of coffee.

Any book lover dreams of having a place where they can escape and a cozy reading nook can make it a reality.

How to Add Character While Using Neutrals

January 24, 2020 By creatingyourspace Leave a Comment

Neutral color themes in homes are always a great choice. They are traditional and timeless designs that work in any environment. However, neutral colors are not typically found on a color wheel. They agree with almost any color without giving influence to a warm- or cool-tone atmosphere. That being said, colors are wonderful for adding character to a room. So without adding color, is it possible to achieve a full-of-character space? Of course, it is! Neutral colors can still have powerful impacts. Understanding other elements in your design theme can allow you to indulge in the neutral color palette and still create a very versatile and lively atmosphere.

Texture

While color can add a dramatic effect to your space, texture is another great tool to consider. Think of a room that was completely white from the floors and walls to the furniture and décor. What makes this room “pop” is the textures. A marble countertop has an entirely different texture than stucco walls or a plush carpet. Putting together different elements of texture like smooth, rough, fine, or coarse can make a room have more appeal. It does so by allowing each texture to stand out against one another.

Hard Contrast

When you are designing with all neutral colors, you are using colors like beiges, browns, blacks, whites, and grays. To create more depth to your design, allow for hard contrast. Black and white are very opposing colors. Having a white marble countertop with black cabinets can create a very hard contrast. These hard contrasts help create depth in your design. This depth is a great way to allow neutral colors to have an even more powerful influence in your home.

Metals and Woods

Neutral colors are commonly called “earthy tones.” Without incorporating warm- or cool-tones, you can still mix in woods and metals to your design. These materials will also add more character to your room since wood is full of character with its grainy texture and design and metal can also add a sheen or shine to your design.

These subtle but powerful tools will create your neutral-themed design and make it truly awe-inspiring. Neutral themed designs are perfect for any home, especially a home going into the real estate market. While not everyone may want a room with painted pink or lime green walls, generally speaking, neutral colors are accepted by everyone. A home can always feel the move-in ready with these tips and tricks.

With the new year, new trends are making their way into the market. Throughout time, many flooring trends come and go. We have seen plenty of them in the last decade as technological advancements in flooring have changed the market. Since buying flooring is not something that you do every year, it is easy to get outdated information on what are the latest trends in the industry. Lucky for you, we are here to help keep your head in the game. Here are some of the most trending floors as we make our way into 2020:

Waterproof Flooring

Flooring advancements in technology have really answered the demand for waterproof flooring. Many different flooring options come with their own sets of pros and cons; however, a considerable drawback for many flooring options is not being able to withstand wet environments. That being said, we are seeing flooring like vinyl planks, carpet, and even laminate coming in waterproof options, such as Mohawk’s RevWood. This feature can allow you a significant variance of flooring selections in your home in 2020.

High Variation Hardwood

A newer trend in the flooring industry is a high variation of colors and sizes in planks in hardwood. Hardwood is already desirable for its wide variety in character. Now, homeowners and businesses are allowing the most durable wood flooring to be even more expressive with high variations of colors and sized planks being mixed together in a single room installation.

Greige Flooring

We saw grey rule the market for some time over the last decade. It came in as the neutral color choice that pushed out beige tones as the highest demand choice. However, now we are witnessing an exciting turn in tides. Greige is the mixed color of grey and beige together. It is becoming quite popular in the flooring industry, showing both interest in the colors beige and grey.

Encaustic Cement Tile

Encaustic tiles are typical handmade tiles with colorful patterns on designs. They are becoming very trending in bathrooms and kitchens lately. These designs can be incredibly unique and help create a stunning design pattern in any home.
