Advice for Maintaining & Caring for Your Carpet

September 25, 2019 By creatingyourspace Leave a Comment

So you have finally decided to go with carpet for your home. Even though carpet is super comfy and stylish, it does have its drawbacks. Anyone who has had the pleasure of owning carpet knows that it is challenging to maintain. Fortunately, we have got you covered. Here are some tips to help you keep your carpet looking like new for longer:

Vacuum on a Regular Basis

If you want your carpet to last for a long time, it is important to vacuum on a regular basis. Vacuuming is essential because it helps prevent dirt, allergens, and dust from accumulating. An excessive build-up in your carpet fibers will make the carpet look dirty and diminish air quality. Therefore, you want to make sure you vacuum at least once a week.

Clean up Spills Right Away

As hard as you try to prevent spills, the inevitable will happen. Be sure to clean up spills immediately because if you let them linger, they can become permanent. If you do not have a special cleaning solution on deck, you can blot the stain clean with water.

When cleaning up spills, make sure you blot instead of rubbing against the surface. Rubbing against the surface will cause the substance to spread further into the carpet. It is best to start at the outer corners of the stain and work your way inside.

Use a Carpet Protector Spray

Apply a carpet protector spray on a regular basis. This is an important step because such a formula will serve as a protective layer, making your carpet stain-resistant. Before applying the carpet protector to your entire carpet, you should try testing it out on a small area that is out of general view. This is just to be sure that it does not tint the carpet.

*Always consult with your flooring manufacturer before applying any products to your carpet.

Seek the Professionals

Some things are best left to the experts. Increase the longevity of your carpet by having the carpet cleaned professionally. A professional can do a deep cleaning of the fiber effectively removing stain remnants and deep cleaning the material.

A consistent maintenance schedule will keep your carpet looking new, and you can plan to have it for many years to come.

Carpet Cleaning Rated Tough Home Chore

December 7, 2009 By creatingyourspace 2 Comments

When the average mom looks down at her carpet and rugs, she sees 85 days a year of cleaning, 96 hours of failure and eight lasting reminders in the form of stubborn spots and stains, according to “Carpet Stains and Kids,” new research from Woolite Carpet and Upholstery.

According to the research:

* Moms tackle carpet and rug stains on 85 days throughout the year
* Kids’ toughest stains typically draw 12 hours of cleaning time, with the average mom able to point to eight of their children’s most resilient trademarks – a total of 96 hours of unrewarded effort per home
* Only 46 percent of moms manage to coax carpets clean of their kids’ toughest stains

Research reveals that the top five stains made by kids are juice (64 percent), soda pop (39 percent), markers (36 percent), chocolate (35 percent) and ketchup (24 percent).

U.S. moms rank cleaning carpet stains as their toughest cleaning challenge, on par with cleaning the stove or refrigerator (52 percent) – worse than getting their windows to sparkle (36 percent) or scrubbing their toilets (34 percent).

Stains on carpets take an emotional toll on moms as well, with almost two-thirds (62 percent) taking the problem personally, saying that carpet stains “make them feel like their home is dirty.”

They reported embarrassment at inviting people over (45 percent), and also felt that carpet stains made them look like they didn’t take care of their home (44 percent). For twenty-seven percent of moms, carpet stains made them feel “like bad homemakers.”

July 17, 2009 By creatingyourspace 2 Comments

Why is it important to maintain your carpet? What is involved in maintaining carpet? Here are some quick tips to carpet maintenance.

Carpet that is properly maintained:

  • Should last 10-15 years
  • Will look great for its full lifetime
  • Help improve indoor air quality
  • Help adhere to your carpet warranty
  • Prevents you from having to replace prematurely

Three simple steps for proper carpet care – According to the Carpet and Rug Institute:

  1. Vacuum at the right frequency with a CRI-approved vacuum.
  2. with products that do not damage the carpet or cause it to resoil quicker.
  3. Professionally deep clean your carpets every 12 to 18 months to remove embedded dirt and grime.

Preventative Maintenance:

  • Take your shoes off before entering your home
  • Use walk off mats at every entrance
  • Change your air filters (the less dust there is in the air, the less dust that can fall on your carpet!)

Take care of your carpet and it will take care of you (and the environment!)
