Color Pallet: On Vacation, Baby!

March 12, 2015 By creatingyourspace

Have you ever considered decorating a space based on inspiration from something other than a photo of a room? How about referencing a whimsical photo, such as the one below? We adore the jewel tones in this image of a baby girl who appears to have landed on the beach after an ocean journey in a suitcase! Most people would simply frame the photo and hang it on the wall. Instead, we suggest making it your primary guideline for designing an entire room!

How, you ask? By using our easy to follow bullet points for each style aspect of the décor. We’ve found that it’s often easiest to use our style advice if we offer it up in quick snippets that you actually have time to absorb before running off to the next thing on your to-do list. Simply extract what works best for your personal vision, or rely on it all to make your decorating project super easy.

The color pallet: Pure Sunshine Yellow, Seaside Teal, Nature’s Burgundy, Mocha, Punchy Pink Lemonade

  • Jewel tones play especially well off of each other, compared to other color combinations, because their beauty is greatly enhanced when there are multiple shades of with equal vibrancy. In other words, it never seems as if they’re competing.
  • The browns are warm and rich, so they work exceptionally well with jewel tones.

  • Yellow – joy, optimism
  • Teal – fresh, vibrant
  • Brown – earthy, stable
  • Pink – fun, spunky

  • Mahogany wood furniture
  • Wicker and rattan
  • Linen textiles

  • Designer ceiling fan

Black & White Flooring Options

October 25, 2012 By creatingyourspace 1 Comment

Are you unsure what flooring to use for your home? Do you have a bold streak and want something unique? Then you might want to add a bit of pizzazz to your décor with black and white flooring. This color scheme creates drama in any room as it makes everything else in the room stand out. Often chosen for bathrooms and kitchens, we’ve recently seen some designers use it throughout the home.

One way to execute a black and white scheme is by implementing the checkerboard design where black and white tiles are placed alternately on the floor. This is one common way of using these two sophisticated colors together.

Another way to implement a black and white scheme for your flooring is by laying black and white tile squares on the diagonal to make a diamond appearance. This look will make your room look shiny and clean.

A mosaic black and white tile can also be a sophisticated choice, though a bit expensive and complicated, if you want patterns and textures for your tile in your entry or hallways.

Another design option that you can do is by adding a single tile of different color in the middle of the room that has black and white flooring. This will give added drama and will create a pattern that will stand out.

The pinwheel design is also a great pattern to follow when implementing a black and white scheme. To do this, single black tile is surrounded from all sides by white tiles or a variation of this pattern is using a white tile instead, with black tiles surrounding it.

If you want a bold, clean and unique look for your kitchen and bathroom, then a black and white color scheme is the way to go.
