Contemporary Design

October 31, 2019 By creatingyourspace Leave a Comment

Contemporary Design is not a style with boundaries. In fact, it is often confused as Modern design. Modern design refers to Mid Century Modern, which is a design style that has come and went in the industry. However, Contemporary Design is the ever-changing fads in design today. It is the most to-date design style with the latest trends. Contemporary Design can be a challenging design style to keep relevant in your home. It borrows ideas through the most recent pop culture and fashion trends, as well as music and design, to help cultivate its influences. To master Contemporary Design, you need to be open-minded and ready to adapt. Here are some key factors to understand about Contemporary Design:

Contemporary Design

Contemporary Design is highly evolving. Like minimalism, Contemporary living is a lifestyle. You need to constantly stay in the loop of what is in style and what is going out of style. Never get too satisfied with a space and be ready to change because adaptability is key. You should also be open to new and innovated ways of doing things. Traditional light fixtures or flooring may be safe, but Contemporary Design will bend the rules and take risks. Be willing to take a risk if this is the design style you choose to follow.

Where to Facilitate

It may be better to go Contemporary in a business-style environment. Continually renovating your storefront year by year can help you stay up to date. Whereas incorporating Contemporary Design in your own home can be very challenging. Contemporary can be affiliated with abstract or unique looking furniture, but it can also change. What is Contemporary today may not be Contemporary in several years from now.

Being adaptable is the best way to use this design. Never get too attached to the layout of your space and be ready to change it at any time. Remember, this design encompasses a range of many styles that have been added in modern years. It can give homage to Modern Design yet has evolved from it. The Best Flooring Materials for Contemporary Homes

October 9, 2019 By creatingyourspace Leave a Comment

When searching for flooring materials for your contemporary home, there are a few options that stand out among the rest. They are the type of materials that are very desirable to homebuyers in the market for an up-to-date look that is move-in ready. If you want to be sure you have made the right choice, check out some of the best choices for contemporary settings.

Hardwood/Engineered Hardwood

Hardwood is one of those materials that has stood the test of time. These floors are endlessly versatile with a variety of furnishings and are valued for the quality look they bring to a living space. While more expensive and timely to install, hardwood floors are always going to be a good investment. If your budget is not as high as you would like, you could still achieve the look you want through the installation of engineered hardwood. Engineered hardwood has a thinner top layer of hardwood with additional wood layers fused beneath it. It is a quicker process to use the engineered version of this material, and you can still enjoy the warmth and class it provides to the room. In fact, there are very few engineered wood disadvantages at all.

Ceramic Tile

Ceramic tile is another excellent choice for a contemporary home that is always sought after by homebuyers. Tile gives the room a clean look and is easy to maintain. The variety of different types of floor tiles on the market today makes it easy for anyone to create a complementary look to any of their decor. Textures, patterns, and shapes can all be used to add a bit of customization to the space while still being able to enjoy the stain- and mold-resistance properties that it provides.

Carpet

Carpet is always going to be appealing for homebuyers who want a space to provide a warm and welcoming retreat from other more formal areas of the house. Carpet is an excellent addition to the living room or bedrooms. Its padding will provide comfort underfoot and help reduce noise, which is a desirable trait if you have children or pets. It is also a safe space in the event of a fall, so both young and old can feel secure when they are standing on a carpeted area.

All in all, contemporary designs can have a very versatile flooring selection. From carpets to hard surfaces, contemporary design is able to gracefully master any of these flooring types.

A Minimalist Look For Your Home

January 4, 2012 By creatingyourspace 1 Comment

Minimalism when it comes to design may be intimidating for many of us. Since we love stuff and stuff leads to clutter, minimalism with its clean lines and lack of stuff can be out of our comfort zone.  This doesn’t have to be the case. Minimalist and contemporary design is about form and function.  Storage and organization is key in a minimalist contemporary style space.  All that stuff and clutter is neatly tucked away and out of sight.

This dining room is a great example of minimalism in contemporary design.  The room has but a few design elements yet feels completely finished and polished.  The table and benches form the seating group; a group of pendant lights create a light fixture; and a collection of vases make for table décor.  The entire design consists of six elements; a table; two benches; two vases; and a lighting fixture.

The lines of the table and benches are clean and sleek yet the dark wood has presence from the thickness of the wood.  Using a wood that is closely related to the dark wood floors anchors the table and benches to the floor.  The dark colors on the floor and table emphasis the height of the room, which is done in crisp white on the walls and ceiling. The white pendant lights blend into the white of the walls and ceiling.

Because of the lack of color and pattern, shape is more important. The tubular shape of the pendants, the rounded vases and rectangles of the table and benches become the design focal points in the minimalist design.

Antique and Modern Combine with Beauty

November 28, 2011 By creatingyourspace Leave a Comment

When you’re planning your home, you may think that your taste is simply defined as traditional, modern or some other standard title.

But often if you look past these labels, you may find that your modern preferences really sing when you introduce some older elements.

The unusual dark brown lattice bases to the two chairs pull the brown from the collection of small hand tools to help the room feel more congruent. In the same way, the sculptural small tables in a light gold by those chairs echo the gold and brown of the old doors on the wall.

This room demonstrates the power of combining a very contemporary approach to furniture with art from another time and place. The clean lines and soft colors of the upholstered pieces allow room for the drama presented by the antique doors and simple tools in this room.

The room’s design choices allow the art to come into total focus. This is a comfortable room, but still designed to draw the eye toward the really important elements – the homeowner’s interest in unique pieces from long ago and far away.

Notice in the second photo that this room actually contains a fairly large flat-screen television and speakers. The choice to install these in the wall, along with the neutral aspect of everything except the screen, keeps this interruption in the room to a minimum. By limiting accessories, the L-shaped room maximizes the power of its art and keeps everything else in proportion.
