Karastan's new area rug styles for 2012

January 20, 2012 By creatingyourspace 1 Comment

(DALTON, GA—JANUARY, 2012) — Karastan is stepping into the New Year with a stellar line up of area rugs that celebrate timeless design yet are clearly in sync with today’s lifestyle needs. The group of newcomers—eight to be exact—joins two of Karastan’s most crowd-pleasing collections, and boast captivating colors and magnificent motifs.

All of the additions are nylon construction, woven in the U.S., and perfectly portray Karastan’s distinguished design principle of creating heirloom-quality floor coverings that stand the test of time.

Carmel Collection

Four new patterns have been created for this collection. They are fresh, fashion-forward looks brimming with botanical motifs and bold geometrics. Monte Vista Fog features a pleasing patchwork of traditional Persian florals in soothing shades of chocolate brown, steel gray and caramel that’s punched-up with paprika and lime green. Whitman Place Brown is a style that elevates a traditional classic to a modern masterpiece with its luminous interpretation of a Persian panel rendered in warm grays and cream with accents of ochre and amber. Bristol Lane Gray is a beauty boasting a Regency inspired fret pattern that caters to contemporary and classic styles with its caramel, ivory and gray tones. Portola Sage resonates with an earth-colored field of philodendron leaves that come to life against an ivory ground.

Knightsen Collection

Designed for connoisseurs of classic who appreciate contemporary compositions, this collection offers time-honored styles that have been enlivened with eye-catching colors. Among the four newcomers is Walnut Park Red, with a pleasing pairing of palmettes and vines that dance across a brilliant red field accented by ivory and chocolate brown. Equally expressive is Westridge Slate/Ivory, which entices with a scene of traditional rosettes and curvilinear vines in coral, yellow and gray. Its counterpart, Westridge Taupe/Plum, offers a similar sensation, yet is bolder in its beauty with coral, gold, purple and gray tones. A more traditional take is Prewett Ranch Fog that incorporates a decoration of spice, lime green and aqua-colored florals found within a gorgeous gray border.

Karastan Adds Metropolitan Collection

New Broadloom Series Features Contemporary Compositions,

Celebrated Craftsmanship

The Metropolitan Collection, Karastan’s new revved-up range of 18 broadloom designs, is making its debut. The series reflects the luxury brand’s dedication to artistry and craftsmanship, adding a chic flair to a flooring genre that is often thought of as a bland, neutralized background for interiors. The style options in this group include sophisticated striations, tonal textures and abstract patterns that live up to their “metropolitan” name and offer a contemporary yet classic look for any décor.

Striation Sensations

Linear looks are perfect for livening up a living space with subtle sophistication, and Karastan is offering four new stria styles that achieve this effect. Chic Vibe, available in 18 color variations, features striking stripes that effortlessly exude a haute and hip attitude. Defining Design dances underfoot with a synchronized ribbon rhythm of soft tonal shades in 12 color options. Sleek Retreat engages with its field of color strias offered in an edgy palette of 12 hues. Timeless Heirloom honors yesterday’s elegance while adding a modern multicolored pop of pizzazz, in a choice of 12 earth-inspired shades.

Fair and Square

A trio of marvelously modern Metropolitan Collection designs incorporates geometric patterns that are bursting with energy. Among them is Harmonious Balance, its fragmented geometric shapes sitting prettily atop a soothing striped background. It is available in 8 captivating colorways. Metro Zone zeroes in on understated urban elegance with its repetition of abstract rectangular forms on a tonal foreground, and is offered in 12 contemporary colors. Urban Landscape entrances the eye with its hypnotic sequence of overlapping squares, and comes in 10 chic shades.

Natural Selections

Another trio of Metropolitan Collection designs is inspired by nature’s own artistry and kicked up with Karastan’s signature styling. Classic Icon qualifies as an organic pattern, its spinning shapes reminiscent of brocade; available in 10 classic colors. Most Inspiring comes to life in 12 hues featuring a flowing pattern of paisley and circles grounded on a monochromatic striped field. New Glamour boasts a vivacious paisley and circle print that elevates a classic to a contemporary creation. It is available in 10 stunning shades.

Attract with Abstracts

The beauty of the Metropolitan Collection styles, in addition to their good looks, is that they prove wall-to-wall carpet can be as decorative, dynamic and even as artful as an area rug or other flooring choices. Comfort Oasis creates a visual vibrancy with overlapping swirls and circles set against a variegated background. It is available in 8 alluring colors. Full Spectrum is reminiscent of handcrafted textiles, with juxtaposed striations adding texture and edge; it comes in a palette of 12 contemporary hues. The cross-hatch pattern of fine linen inspired the creation of Lino, which is available in 10 coloways. It’s a look that contributes a touch of casual elegance to any interior, as does Metro Center with its criss-cross motif, available in 10 modern shades. Modern Aesthetic is a collage of ovals and circles intertwined to achieve a playful pattern that pops on a pinpoint background; 12 tone-on-tone colors are offered. Serene Garden is a composition of circles that intriguingly combine to create a textural look and a calming aura. It is available in 10 soothing shades. Timeless Focus features a versatile look with a tonal and textured design that’s available in 20 colors. Its style is befitting any traditional or laidback interior. Its tonal and textured design is available in 20 colors. Finally, Variegato exhibits quiet glamour with a soft stria pattern evocative of mist on a mountain landscape. It is offered in 10 rich shades.

All of the Metropolitan Collection creations are cut and loop construction crafted of premium nylon fibers that are stain and soil resistant, making them particularly perfect for high-energy spaces such as family and entertainment rooms, home offices and gyms. Appealing, too, is that each offering features Karastan’s signature Ultra Performance System engineering tufting technology that eliminates edge ravel and keeps the floor covering chic and complete for a lifetime.

Karastan Rugs and Carpets Receive Wool: Clean Air Certification

January 6, 2011 By creatingyourspace 3 Comments

clean-air-woolKarastan has become the first company to carry the Wool: Clean Air Certified label on all of its wool carpets and rugs.

Products approved to carry the Wool: Clean Air Certified label are tested by a certified independent laboratory and must pass stringent VOC emission testing for 13 contaminants. In addition, the products are required to meet scientifically established testing standards that verify reductions of VOCs, including formaldehyde, sulphur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide, in the indoor environment.

Wool: Clean Air Certified is an Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) program managed by Wools of New Zealand.

“Wool has incredible attributes that deserve to be recognized,” says Connie Berry, director of marketing for Karastan. “As the largest manufacturer of wool carpets and rugs in America, we applaud Wools of New Zealand for giving wool a greater voice. Solid scientific backing and high testing standards give the Wool: Clean Air Certified label impressive credibility that we are proud to carry on our products.”

The buildup of indoor air contaminants is a growing concern in residential as well as commercial interiors. Although many materials, including carpet, pass tests for minimum VOC (volatile organic compounds) emissions, wool goes a giant step further by removing contaminants from the air and improving the health of the indoor environment.

“Wool is proven to significantly reduce indoor air contaminants within seven hours of installation and to keep contaminants out of the air for 30 years,” says Elise Demboski, executive director of North America for Wools of New Zealand. “Unfortunately, this unique attribute is overlooked since wool only represents 2 percent of the market. Through the Wool: Clean Air Certified program, we are bringing wool to the forefront where it will be noticed.”

In addition to meeting the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) LEED point requirements, the certification also meets the standards for California Section 01350 and Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS).

Carpets and rugs containing a minimum of 50 percent wool are eligible for Wool: Clean Air certification. Product samples are submitted by platform, which is dependent upon backing and latex type. Every platform is fully retested on an annual basis to maintain the integrity of the Wool: Clean Air certification.

Karastan Lets The Customer Customize The Rug

June 15, 2009 By creatingyourspace 2 Comments

What’s the true definition of luxury? Most arbiters of style would say customization. From clothing to handbags to jewelry, nothing connotes elegance and indulgence like something that’s created especially for you.
Now Karastan, one of the country’s leading manufacturers of premium quality floor coverings, is taking this idea to the floor—literally—with the introduction of Inspired Luxury, an innovative program that allows you to design your own custom area rug by choosing from a wide array of colors, sizes, and wall-to-wall broadloom styles.
“Inspired Luxury gives Karastan customers a unique opportunity to design a rug to their specifications, so that they can create a signature floor covering to complement the room of their dreams,” said Connie Berry, director of marketing at Karastan. “We’re thrilled to offer consumers this novel way to truly ‘make a statement.’”
The process of creating an Inspired Luxury rug is simple and fun. The first step is to select from 15 broadloom styles featuring a variety of textures and patterns, including such Karastan favorites as Coastal Elegance, a hip, fun-loving shag, and Natural Desire, an elegant diamond pattern. Then, choose a color from the options available in your selected style.
Once you’ve settled on a color and look, the next decision is what size is best. There are three popular options to choose from: 6’-x-9’, 8’-x-10’, or 9’-x-12’. And for the finishing touch, Inspired Luxury offers four custom bindings.
Cotton, available up to 1 ½” on the face of the carpet, is a clean, classic choice. Jute, a natural fiber, is another binding that lends an airy, organic appeal and is available up to 3” on the face of the rug. For a sophisticated, edgy variation, Karastan offers a supple leather binding of up to 2” with mitered corners. Finally, a sleek, streamline finish is achievable with 100% wool fiber serging. While all styles are not available with all binding options, there are myriad combinations to be created to suit a range of décors.
Once your order is placed, you’ll receive your rug within four to six weeks. Prices for Inspired Luxury rugs range from $599 for a 6’-x-9’ to $2,199 for a 9’-x-12’, depending on style and binding.
Exquisite, cut-to-order custom rugs are just one part of the Inspired Luxury program. For discerning design junkies in search of broadloom carpeting that’s just the right shade and style, Karastan offers a Custom Color option. Select a carpet style from the 15 Inspired Luxury designs. Then comes the really fun part: choose from a veritable rainbow of 100 colors, ranging from subtle neutrals like taupe, caramel and grey to eye-popping hues including purple, sea-green, and yellow. Karastan will specially dye 3 swatches that will provide you with a range of saturation, from deep to pale, so that you can find the best, most precise match to your walls and furnishings in the actual lighting of the room you’re decorating. You’ll receive the swatches within two to three weeks. Decide which one is best and place your order (minimum: 66 square yards). You can expect to receive your carpeting four to six weeks later. Consult your local Karastan dealer for pricing information for the Custom Color program.
The Inspired Luxury program is now available at Karastan dealers nationwide. For more information on Karastan, or to locate a dealer near you, visit www.karastan.com.
