Loft Decorating

August 15, 2011 By creatingyourspace Leave a Comment

This classic loft has a lot of personality. The original brick wall and the oversized window provide so much architectural power in the room.

The floor is a common choice for lofts – staining and polishing the original concrete. With the help of area rugs, this semi-industrial look captures the feel of the factory or warehouse that the space used to be. However, this couple found a way to bring classic flooring into their space by using wood flooring on the vaulted ceiling.

Lofts can feel cold without careful planning. By adding wood above the living space ceiling in this room – hiding the industrial pipes and vents – the space reaches a new level of classic style.

Sometimes a high ceiling can actually make a space too big, so that it loses a personal connection. By putting wood on this ceiling, the entire loft connects together. The window, vertical mirror and the wood ceiling bring the room together.

This space combines the design benefits of loft living with the inviting coziness of a true home. Light, color and the right architectural approach make this space both beautiful and very livable.

This room is a great balance of hard and soft. The plush furniture contrast with the cool feel of the floor, and the black velvety trim on the area rug warms up the sisal surface. Yes the coffee table has a glass top, but the dark wood base keeps it from feeling too modern for the room.

The neutral tones that make up this space are a natural extension of the architectural elements, reflected in the pillows, accessories and art. One of the most powerful features is the light coming in the window. With simple blinds customized to the window, the room has the benefit of the natural light when wanted and privacy and light minimization when needed.
