Modern Farmhouse Design

April 2, 2020 By creatingyourspace Leave a Comment

When considering a design theme, there are thousands of styles to mimic and replicate. In fact, you will find that each design theme has its own set of guidelines that can help you master its aesthetics in your own household. So when it comes to design styles, it is not uncommon for two methods to blend in order to create something beautiful. In fact, every design style offers its own set of benefits. Therefore, mixing two can create the best of both worlds, and this concept is no exception when it comes to Modern Farmhouse design. This style blends Mid-Century Modern with the Rustic style of Farmhouse Design to create something truly unique. So if you are a fan of either or both styles, this may be perfect for your own household.

Mixing Sleek Minimalism with Rustic Comfort

Mid-Century Modern is a design style that has come and went in the industry. It is still used today, but it is not to get confused with Contemporary. Modern design is styling with sleek, hard cut lines. It usually features a very open layout with and minimalistic approach. While this design is beautiful, it lacks the character and comfort of farmhouse design. Farmhouse is a design style that grew off of the traditional Rustic styling. This design puts rural influences at the core of the design and adds comfortable textile and more natural elements into the room.

Color Palette

When it comes to the color palette, typically, Modern design has the influence here. This design will feature a light and neutral color palette using grey, beiges, whites, and blacks. The palette allows the space to contrast well and feels very open. Plus, it is also common to see a very open layout in these design styles. This characteristic comes down to not only the architectural influences but your minimalistic approach as well.

Authentic Wood and Stone

Yet, on the other hand, Farmhouse is very prominent in the décor and furniture. You will notice hardwood flooring or natural stone to be a significant influence in this design style. You will have many natural kinds of wood and stone qualities being facilitated in the décor and furniture as well. These natural elements help balance the design and keep it more grounded.

Modern Farmhouse is the perfect blend of comfort and cleanliness. With these styles combined, your house can feel like a model home that is ready to host any event. We hope you enjoyed learning about this style and try to facilitate these tricks in your own home. For more insight on design styles and tricks, make sure to subscribe.

Tips for Choosing Modern Style Lighting

October 23, 2019 By creatingyourspace Leave a Comment

Have you done a recent renovation, or are you simply jazzing up a room and want to try Modern design? We completely understand and realize just how popular and how pleasing it is to bring something from history back to life! We recommend introducing a little Modern lighting into the room and starting here.

First, we must not get confused about the difference between Modern style and Contemporary style. Actually, they are quite different, and we are going to help you understand and determine just what you need to purchase for modern style lighting.

History

Modern style evolved from the movement in the 1920s to the 1950s. Modern style differs from Contemporary because it follows a defined style, straight lines, geometric shapes, clean and minimal furnishings, and accessories. We have listed below some tips and tricks for making that special Modern lighting purchase.

Room Size

Start by looking at the room and think about the size of the room with any cabinets, countertops, islands, built-ins, or bookcases that may be present. This will help you determine the number of fixtures you must purchase. If you have a countertop or kitchen island and it is six feet long, and the fixtures are twenty-four inches, think about purchasing three light fixtures.

Ceiling Height

If you have ten plus feet of ceiling, you must think about the height because you will need more intense lighting to cover the area and to be able to see properly. Many Modern rooms install recessed lighting. Recessed lighting is unnoticeable and very minimal, which is perfect for Modern style. You can also choose flush-mounted lighting or flush-mounted wall sconces, which are minimal and do not compete with the overall design style of the room.

Types of Lighting

Most Modern style lighting will consist of LED lighting. It has become the standard for energy savings and only uses a fraction of the electricity that an incandescent or halogen low wattage bulb uses. The LED lighting gives off much less heat and is less costly to run overtime. You will pay more for the initial bulb, but they will last for years!

Style

If we follow the Modern design style, our lighting is going to be sleek with a lot of stainless steel and glass, which possibly has some wood to match the overall Modern style. Again, we want to make sure the lighting is white, cream, or clear to fall in line with the minimalist look.

What are your thoughts on Modern design? We would love to hear from you below in the comment section.

Bath Along Modern Lines

September 13, 2012 By creatingyourspace Leave a Comment

ModernBathroomThis bathroom is intensely modern. Clean lines and limited furnishings and accessories support this, but it’s the color choices that push the bathroom into a truly contemporary look.

Black, white and red is actually a classic color palette for the modern style. In this case, red really takes front-and-center. The glossy tone of the red floor helps it stand out in the room. Notice that the red flooring is so shiny that the bathtub, sink and floor vase actually reflect white against it.

The strong use of red and a dark charcoal-toned black make the white in the bathroom stand out. This is in sturdy contrast to the standard and rather bland use of white in bathrooms. Of course, these fixtures are far from standard. The tub’s grace really makes the space special and its’ lines coordinate perfectly with the larger floor vase and the handful of smaller ones perched on the shelves around the walls.

There are only a few elements that are not shiny and manmade. The vases hold grasses that add a nice and needed bit of green to the room. This keeps the space from feeling too sterile. Also, about a half-dozen water-rounded stones in a soft grey have their places on the shelves. Simple of line and color, they work well with everything else in the bath.

One interesting note: even with this simple design, there’s actually plenty of storage. Some of the charcoal rectangles at the bottom of the bathroom and the white rectangles above contain storage shelves. With spring-loaded sleek cabinet doors, no visitor would know, but they actually provide quite a bit of room.

Whether this bathroom is your style or not, you have to admit that it does draw your attention!

Good Design Starts with the Fundamentals

October 21, 2011 By creatingyourspace 1 Comment

If you are drawn to modern styles, every choice becomes more critical. With traditional design there are many details to draw the eye. Good modern design keeps lines simple and furnishings to a minimum. This forces every element to carry more importance in a room.

Take a look at this bedroom. Its clean lines and neutral palette requires attention to every detail.

First, notice how the two-inch wood blinds match the light wood flooring. This connection creates style before adding stick of furniture. These blinds offer a selection of fabric tapes to cover the mechanism, and this daring dark choice brings the equally-dark bed frame into focus. The dark verticals coordinate with the dark horizontals of the only two pieces of furniture in the space.

The bed linens are simple and light and the matching bed pillows provide the only patterned fabric in the room. The large circles on the larger set of pillows show a classic modern design, and then the gold dragonflies embroidered on the smaller pillows provide an unexpected touch of romance. The flowers also provide a softer element, but the very contemporary vase keeps the design consistently modern.
