Rustic Elements in the Traditional Bedroom

September 14, 2011 By creatingyourspace Leave a Comment

Rustic style meets traditional in this comfortable and stylish bedroom. Rustic décor elements don’t need to be relegated to cabin, lodge and country décor styles. Mixing design elements with aged and imperfect surfaces with traditional designs makes the space feel more comfortable, more liveable.

A subtle palette puts an emphasis on textures.  Rough, unpolished woods stand out against smooth gray walls. The natural wood of the night stand, dresser and headboard add a patina of age to the room. Traditional slipper chairs in button-tufted gray upholstery have tons of texture and pattern.  A berber or sisal carpet adds further texture to balance out the reclaimed woods used in the nightstands and headboard. The antique bureau has a similar shade of wood but is more finished.  Love the juxtaposition between antique and rustic design elements.

The chandelier and bedside lamps add a nice black accent to the mostly monochrome space. They also add a nice metallic element to the room full of wood. The glass vase and mirror above the dresser add a reflective quality to the room, adding a little bit of sparkle to the matte textures of wood and upholstery.

Bed linens are the perfect place to add splashes of color and pattern in a bedroom.  Keeping curtains the same color as the wall color makes them blend in, creating a uniform wall.  Adding orange, or any color, accents and patterned linens pulls the focus of the room toward the bed.  After all, the bed is the star of the bedroom.
