Fading Trends of 2019

October 24, 2019 By creatingyourspace Leave a Comment

Interior design is always changing. Trends come and go. With today being highly influenced by social media and trends being easier to access, the design world is evolving quicker than ever. It is essential to make sure the investments you put into your home are timeless. Investing in trendy colors, styles, or furniture can quickly make your home outdated. Here are three trends that become popular fast and may fade away as we approach the year 2020:

Terrazzo

Terrazzo is a composite material with chips and flakes of marble, granite, and glass. These components make terrazzo extremely durable while giving it a very interesting look. It is a flooring option that is water-resistant and stain-resistant after it has been sealed. While this style became popular in the last couple of years, it is slowly fading out of popularity.

Black and White Primary Neutrals

Neutral colors will always be needed in households. They ground the design without making it too influenced by colors. Throughout time, primary neutral colors have been established. A few years back, beige and tan were put into every home looking to be sold. Recently, over the last decade, black and white have made their way into the market in everything from flooring, paint, countertops, and appliances. While these neutrals are great for creating a hard contrast, the craze is slowly fading out of popularity. Neutral beiges and tans are becoming popular again, while also muted color tones are now accepted as a common substitute for a neutral color choice.

Minimalism

When entering a model home over the last couple of years, minimalism was traditionally the style of choice. It was considered to help make the room feel more open and allow potential buyers to feel themselves moving into the space. The minimalist movement also affected many homes as homeowners loved the clean look in their atmosphere with little clutter. However, this prevented the privilege to express your individuality in your design. Maximalism is slowly becoming more common as minimalism begins to dwindle away in interior design preferences.

Trends come and go. Keep your eyes open for what is trending and what is going out of style. You do not always want to invest in something that is trending. Remember to stick to the classics when it comes to investments.

Is Granite Going out of Style?

September 4, 2019 By creatingyourspace Leave a Comment

Granite is the number one choice for countertop solutions by many homeowners and businesses. With a beautiful aesthetic appeal and extreme durability, granite has become a staple by giving any design a more luxurious and complete look. However, design is always changing. We see some trends come and go in the industry too often, but granite is a natural material which has reign superior for an extremely long time. However, with improvements and desire in quartz and marble, is granite still in style or just fading away as another trend?

Why Granite Countertops?

When it comes to selecting a countertop, there are several material options available. Every alternative comes with its own set of pros and cons, and granite is no exception. While it can withstand extreme heat, will not scratch from cutlery or knives, and can add value to a home, it still has two significant setbacks. Granite is not the most inexpensive option available, and granite is porous. It being porous means that it can stain if not treated with a sealant annually. So, has this annual maintenance began to deter consumers from investing in these countertops?

The Evolution of Interior Design

We see all the time that interior design and home preferences are changing. Even in fashion and grooming styles, we notice trends come in and out of style, and each generation brings forth new favorites. Sometimes, children do not like certain flooring styles or wall colors because they remind them of “what their grandparents had.” This logic is understandable and is one of the main reasons we see the evolution in trends. However, granite countertops have been around for a very long time. As the decade turns, many styles begin to fade with it. Is granite an exception?

Is Granite Trending or Forever?

The truth is, quality and durability will never go out of style. Granite is arguably the most versatile option when it comes to countertops. While granite does have some annual maintenance, so do many things of value in our lives. It is hard to see granite going out of style any time soon with its superior quality and beauty it brings to every home.

So, all in all, investing in granite countertops is an excellent decision. They work with almost every design style and can truly make your home feel more inviting and beautiful. This investment can be one of the most effective ways to transform your kitchen into a sophisticated style.

Is the Gray Heyday Over?

August 23, 2019 By creatingyourspace Leave a Comment

Neutral color palettes will and always have been relevant in interior design.  We had a very long run with beige and tan being dominant in almost every design theme; however, we slowly watched as flooring, cabinets, paints, and decor accessories turned to another neutral option: gray. Gray is great because it features a vast spectrum. From black to white, gray has to ability to create a hard contrast, give depth, and keep a sophisticated look in many interior design styles. However, as quickly as we saw gray emerge onto the scene, we may also be witnessing its sudden demise.

Fifty Shades

What is your favorite color? The chances that you thought “gray” are slim to none. Gray is usually associated with gloomy weather; however, gray is still used in many homes today. This is not because gray is beautiful, but because this neutral color allows other colors to shine. Gray is the perfect neutral color to allow other colors to pop. Its spectrum is just as broad as any other color, yet with white and black on either end, it makes this color feel much more significant! From sheen finishes to matte looks, gray works great in any style home.

Using Gray

Gray is great at creating depth and is used in many monochromatic-themed rooms. A monochromatic theme is a design which does not veer from one color. Picture a room using all shades of green or a room with all shades of blue. These rooms would give off a very distinct feel and ambiance. The green room may feel plant influenced, creative, and lively, whereas perhaps the blue room feels passive, calm, and bold. When using grey, you do not get these deliberate themes. Instead, this monochromatic color theme feels collective, sophisticated, but unbiased. So it is excellent for reselling and making an atmosphere that appeases to the masses.

Is The Gray Heyday Over?

Looking at sales in different categories of flooring, paints, and cabinets, gray is not selling as dramatically as it was a couple of years ago; however, the “trend” is not dead. Beige is coming back into interior design because it offers a little more warmth as a neutral color, whereas gray feels a little bit cooler.

So What Does This Mean?

That being said, this does not mean that gray shall become obsolete in design. We should look at both these styles of colors for what they have to offer.  If you like the properties and stylings that gray has to offer, it is still an excellent choice for design. If you feel that beige provides a better feel to your home, go with beige. Each neutral color slightly offers a different feel. Deciding which one you like more allows you to tailor your home to you.

Fading Design Trends | 2019 Edition

August 16, 2019 By creatingyourspace Leave a Comment

Trends will come and go in interior design. They are influenced by many factors, including what generation is currently buying their first homes, the economy, and cultural influences. Neutral colors have been used for decades to help get homes ready to sell on the market. Neutral tones neither add a warm or a cool tone to the atmosphere, yet they are extremely adaptable and can work with anything without clashing. Therefore, many homeowners will add neutral colors to their homes to prepare them for the market. We have seen some styles come and go, and we are currently in the midst of some trends fading. Let’s take a look at some of these trends.

Beiges & Tans

Many homeowners for a very long time were using beige, sands, and tans in their homes. These colors could commonly be seen in carpets, countertops, wall paints, and doors alike. While these neutrals did well for an extremely long time, they slowly began to phase out during the last decade.

Greys

The decade of 2010 began to bring forth a new generation of colors to the market. The millennials began incorporating shades of grey throughout their home, and this new edge look was being used in modern style homes and many minimalistic spaces. White and black created hard contrast to give the room depth while greys could make this monochromatic theme blend more appropriately. From stainless steel appliances, grey backsplashes, and grey flooring, the trend began to take off in the industry, and homes were being built with grey as the go-to color in the design.

What Is Next?

However, this rapidly growing trend has begun to lose speed. Experts believe the grey era is on its way out as a new neutral comes to take the throne. But what is it? The market has not had a definitive outlier yet. Some contending theories are that pastels may begin to become the new neutral. Pastels are muted tones that are so lightly hued that they have little to no impact on the room’s theme. Others believe soft, earthy tones are on their way back with a little more flair. Think caramel, burnt orange, hazelnut, and leathery browns. Perhaps, we will see the “Pewter” era, where grey and beige become more commonly blended together to give a new canvas feel to the room.

We cannot be certain yet, but Pewter is slowly rising, yet not significant enough to phase out the grey area. What do you think the next trend will be? Will grey make it another decade or will a new neutral reign king? Let us know below what you think.
