How to Design a White Room

January 16, 2020 By creatingyourspace Leave a Comment

An all-white room is a blank canvas for you to create whatever you like. Perhaps, you love the crisp and clean feel of a white atmosphere. And while monochromatic spaces are rooms that use only one color in their color palette, white can be tricky. Unlike traditional colors like red, yellow, blue, and so on, you do not have the privilege to play with hues or darken the color. However, this does not mean making a monochromatic white room is impossible. There are several tricks for decorating and designing a white room that you might want to try. Let’s take a look!

Texture

With a monochromatic color palette, texture is vital. Texture will help create depth and contrast in your home. And since white on white does not pop, adding some texture will create clear, crisp lines.

Add Warmth Subtly

White is as neutral of a color as you can get. You will want to warm up your home with subtle influences of color. Never add too much to take away from the all-white look, but just enough to add warmth. Consider adding some light pastel tones to pillows or décor pieces in your room. These soft, muted colors will not distract from the overall design, but help enhance the space.

Wood

Another element you can add without taking away from the design is wood. Consider adding hardwood or wood furniture to the room. This feature can help give a classy and sophisticated look to your all-white color palette. Plus, wood will also help stay neutral and support your design rather than overpower it.

Plants

A key secret to any design is adding plants. Plants will add vitality to a room and help spruce up your space. This greenery is a great way to add a little color without distracting the eyes. With such a clean and crisp color palette, your plants will also work as a natural air purifier in your home as well.

Metal Accents

There are metal accents in many areas of your home. From door handles, accent pieces, trim, furniture, and drawer handles, all of these items can have metal to them. Making the metal trim agree in your design will help bring it to the next level!

A monochromatic room is a tremendous and foolproof way of styling your space. Simply buy everything in the color of your choice. When tackling white; however, remember to keep some of these tricks in mind. They will help make your monochromatic white room feel aesthetically pleasing and well balanced.

Color Schemes — White

June 19, 2015 By creatingyourspace Leave a Comment

White might seem like the easiest possible option when it comes to decorating your home. In theory it coordinates with everything. It’s basically a blank canvas. However, the difficulty level sometimes increases if you want it to be the most prevalent color in a room. If you’re ideal room is large expanses of white it’s important to ensure that you balance it well.

If not, your home will look more like an institutional structure than a place you’d love to live. Which isn’t to say you can’t feature more white than any other color. In fact, we think it often works best to tip the scale in favor of white. To use it like a pro just be sure that you combine it with colors that are equally eye catching. This will ensure the room looks well coordinated instead of un-unified. Ready to get started? Enjoy our guide to the very best combos!

  1. White, Beige, Gold
  2. Tiffany Blue, Pink, Yellow, White
  3. Aqua, Fuchsia, Lime Green, White
  4. White, Silver, Gold, Dark Brown
  5. Warm Yellow, Coral, Dark Orange, White
  6. Red, Fuchsia, Black, White
  7. White, Purple, Grey
  8. White, Beige, Brown, Gold

Once you’ve chosen the color scheme you like best visit the paint store and pick up paint chips. Get a few of each color so you can experiment. Take them home and lay them on a large piece of white paper. Use scissors to trim them to different sizes and combine them in various ways. This will give you an idea of how much of each color needs to be used to achieve the effect you want!

Contemporary and Functional

November 9, 2011 By creatingyourspace 3 Comments

Somehow an extremely modern bathroom doesn’t seem likely to also be extremely functional. This bathroom is a noticeable exception.

From the daring color scheme to the clean lines of every element, this bathroom demonstrates the modern look with flair. The curves of the unique tub echo in the vases that hold the only other color, the natural green of a few plants. One other natural element serves to accessorize the room simply – a handful of grey water-rounded stones.

Up-lights above the white rectangular cabinets provide generous and indirect lighting for the entire room. This lets the glossy red flooring shine throughout, actually showing white reflections from the tub and vanity. This room’s use of red dares to make this vivid color the strongest positive element in the room. Black lower shelving/cabinet units step into the background. White alternates background and foreground – background with the upper cabinets and definitely foreground with the tub and sink shouting out against the darker tones.

Here’s the amazing functional element to this bath. Many of the rectangles in this room’s wall design hide storage shelves. Shallow at the bottom and a little deeper above, this room provides a yeoman’s share of storage. Doors with spring locks require no pulls to distract from the clean lines. By using this space rather than just letting the design stand alone, the designer provided a certain look for the bathroom and additional storage that can be useful in the bath and for other storage needs.

The magic in this room come from two sources – the beauty of the design and the thought behind the functionality.
